ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect of vibration environments on patients with posterior lumbar interbody fusion in daily life. Methods Finite element models of an intact lumbar spine and a postoperative model with fixed L4-5 segments were established. Subsequently, a 40-kg mass point was applied to the upper end plate of the L1 segment to perform a modal analysis. Results In comparison with an intact lumbar spine, the resonance frequency for each order of the whole lumbar spine was reduced after posterior lumbar interbody fusion, and the primary movement of the corresponding modes were also changed. The first two inherent frequencies of the modal in the fusion model were 2.94 Hz and 3.81 Hz, which were close to the vibration frequencies in daily life. In the first three order vibrations, the mode amplitudes of the posterior elements for the L2 and L3 segments increased in the fusion model, which could increase the risk of postoperative degeneration at such locations. In addition, the vibration amplitude of the intervertebral disc of the L3-4 segments clearly increased, particularly at the part of the disc near the L3 vertebral body, which could lead to increased stress and strain and further accelerate its degeneration. Conclusion sBased on the modal analysis of a lumbar spine after posterior lumbar interbody fusion, the investigation of the vibration characteristics of the postoperative lumbar spine will provide some theoretical guidance for the recovery and healthy life of the patients after the corresponding surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the variations o f mitochondrial D-loop region in gastric cancers. Methods:The D-loop region of 12 gastric cancers together with th e adjacent normal tissues were amplified by PCR and sequenced. Results: Among the 12 cases,16 mutations and 28 polymorphisms were identified with the mutations rate of 50%.There were 3 new polymophisms which we re not reported previously in the GeneBank among the 28 polymorphisms. Conclusion:We think that the mitochondrial DNA D-loop region is a highly polymorphric and mutable region and the mutation rate is relatively high in patients with gastric cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect of rosiglitazone on plaque stability in ApoE-knockout mice. Methods Thirty-two 6-week-old ApoE knockout mice were used as atherosclerosis models in two groups: rosiglitazonegroup (n=18) and control group (n=14). Male and female mice were half separated into two groups. All mice were fed normal chow diet. Rosiglitazone group received rosiglitazone 17 mg/kg of body weight/day. The animals were sacrificed and aortae were prepared for analysis after fourteen weeks. Aortic root were cutted and prepared for paraffin section. The positive percentage of macrophage cells, smooth muscle cells, tumor necrosis factor-? and matrix metalloproteinase-9 in aortic lesions were measured by immunohistochemistry. The changes of grey gradient of collagen in lesion of both groups were measured by Masson stain. Results The positive percentage of smooth muscle cells [(38.5?7.2)%vs(18.6?6.7)%,P

ABSTRACT

M.tuberculosis strains isolated strains from sputum specimens of 134 patients were analyzed by PCR SSCP and traditional drug susceptibility tests. The results sbowed that the gene mutation rate of PZA, SM, RFP,INH and EMB resistance in those clinically isolated strains was 42 7%,71 7%,78 9%,68 6% and 43 9%, respectively. The gene mutation was in relation with drug resistance level of M. tuberculosis. The gene mutation rate was higher in high concentration resistance strains than in low concentration resistance strains.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To study the quality standard for Puhuang Dispensing Granule (Pollen Typhae). Methods : Puhuang Dispensing Granule was identified by TLC and isorhamnetin-3-O-neohesperidoside and typhaneoside in Puhuang Dispensing Granule were determined by HPLC. Results : The linear relationship was at the range of 0.4~1.21?g for isorhamnetin-3-O-neohesperidoside and 0.42~1.25?g for typhaneoside, respectively. The average recovery was 98.88% for isorhamnetin-3-O-neohesperidoside and 99.68% for typhaneoside, respectively. Conclusion : The method is available with a good reproducibility and can control the quailty of Puhuang Dispensing Granule.

ABSTRACT

In order to study the curative effects of L arginine (L Arg) on high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE),we had treated 10 patients with HAPE by intravenous L Arg at 3700m, and the result was compared with 11 patients who inhaled low concentration nitric oxide (NO) and 24 subjects with routine treatment. The findings were as follows:compared with the routine group, inhaling NO or intravenous L Arg could hasten the disappearance of moist rales and X ray shadow, and shorten the illness time( P 0.05). It suggested that intravenous L Arg is a handy way to treat HAPE, and there is no toxicity. It is worthy of further trial.

ABSTRACT

The curative effect on 124 cases with multi drug resistant pulmonary tuberculosis from January 1996 to June 1999 was reported. All the cases, with an average history of 5.84 years, were recurrent ones. They included 78 cases of infultative pulmonary tuberculosis,46 cases of chronic fibrocavitative pulmonary tuberculosis. Sputum of all the cases was cultured for Mycobacterium hominis tuberculosis with Kuang`s culture medium and drug susceptibility test was done. As a result, the drug resistant rate to 2 drugs, 3 drugs,4 drugs, 5 drugs and more were 20.16%,25.0%,20.9%,33.72% respectively. The authors added 1~2 kinds of anti TB drugs never used before in each case to KOP (Kanamycin, Ofloxacin, Sodium Aminosalicylate),with a mean 3.3 months treating course. The sputum negative conversion rate was 66.9%,foci absorption rate was 72.6%, cavity close up 50.0% . There wasn′t any serious adverse effect encounted. It suggest that KOP synergetic bacteriocidal to Mycobacterium tuberculosis either inside or outside cells, with fewer side effect, is a good regimen for multi drug tuberculosis treatment.
